O LORD, how many are my foes

O LORD, how many are my foes (敵人)!
Many are rising against me;
2many are saying of my soul,
“There is no salvation (拯救) for him in God.”

3But you, O LORD, are a shield(盾牌) about me,
my glory, and the lifter of my head.
4I cried aloud to the LORD,
and he answered me from his holy hill.

5I lay down and slept;
I woke again, for the LORD sustained(支撐) me.
6I will not be afraid of many thousands of people
who have set themselves against me all around.

7Arise, O LORD!
Save me, O my God!
For you strike(擊打) all my enemies on the cheek;
you break the teeth of the wicked.
8Salvation belongs to the LORD;
your blessing be on your people!

(Psalms 3, Bible.

By comparing God to a shield, David was so certain that he was defended by his power. He also said that God was his glory because God had given David the royal position and would protect and uphold it for him.

In my opinion, David's main message is that even when his enemies tried to crush his faith by insulting God, he didn't give up and instead raised his voice in prayer to God. He also reassures others that his prayers were not in vain, hoping to inspire other believers to remain steadfast in their faith.

Moreover, the righteous always manage to overcome their fears in the end, and thus he lay down and slept without fear and anxiety. David came to have this confidence of safety from the protection of God. He expresses confidence in the Lord's ability to defeat his enemies, as he describes God striking them on the cheek and breaking their teeth, which symbolizes their defeat. David acknowledges that salvation belongs to the Lord and ends the prayer with a blessing for God's people. Overall, the passage highlights David's faith and trust in the Lord's power to protect and save him from his enemies.

When we face minor difficulties, we often complain or immediately question God. But David, despite encountering immense pain and danger, still trusted in God. It's hard to imagine such a situation. Let's hope that we have the same faith as David, and rely on God in difficult times.
